New: Two-Way Chat History

Both halves of the translation view now display a scrolling chat history.

  • Each side reads upright from its own edge of the screen
  • All prior turns visible to both participants
  • Auto-scrolls to the newest message as the conversation progresses
  • One-tap refresh button to start a fresh conversation anytime

New: Context-Aware Translations

Each translation now includes recent prior turns as context.

  • Pronouns, names, and tone stay consistent across the conversation
  • Register locks in — Japanese keigo stays keigo, casual French stays casual
  • Powered by an upgraded backend that passes the last 30 turns to the translation model
  • Context is free — only the new sentence counts against your monthly character quota

New: Native-Language Default Voices

Every account now starts with a small library of high-quality default voices, no cloning required.

  • Voices trained per target language (English, Japanese, and more)
  • The voice picker on your side automatically defaults to a voice trained in your listener's language for the most natural output
  • Your own personal clones override defaults when you're ready

New: Quick Language Setup on First Launch

A one-screen setup at first launch asks which two languages you'll use most.

  • Pre-filled from your device language
  • Stored locally — no re-prompting on every session
  • Language pickers in the app can override anytime

New: Speak or Type

A keyboard button now sits beside the microphone on each half.

  • Speak when it's natural, type when it isn't
  • Works on both halves with an upright text-input sheet
  • Quietly useful in noisy cafés and silent meeting rooms

New: See Who's Speaking

Every chat bubble shows the voice that read it aloud.

  • Small voice-name footer per bubble (e.g. Rachel, Yukiko)
  • Currently-playing message pulses with a soft glow so you always know which audio is making the sound

Improved: Try Before You Clone

New users can now experience translation immediately, without cloning their voice first.

  • Default voices play out of the box
  • A friendly post-translation prompt offers cloning after the user has felt the magic — not before
  • Cloning remains available anytime under Settings → Your Voice

Improved: Reliability & Trust

  • Expired sessions now auto-detect and return the user to sign-in cleanly instead of failing silently
  • First-time voice upload reliability fixed — clear errors with a link to Settings for permissions
  • Microphone & speech-recognition prompts updated with concrete examples for clarity

Plans & Pricing (Updated)

  • Free (Starter): 5,000 characters/month, 1 temporary voice clone
  • Pro: $9/month — 100,000 characters, 3 voice clones (3-month duration), priority processing
  • Business: $29/month — 360,000 characters, 10 voice clones, API access, commercial license

Platform & Backend Improvements

  • Backend default voice catalog (Rachel, Adam, Yukiko, Bella, Josh) available to every user
  • Translation API extended with optional context parameter for multi-turn LLM context
  • Optional voiceId on /speak with language-based server fallback
